Archive for February, 2012

For months and months we poured over magazines, and online sites to find the resources we needed to put our “Something Blue” table together for the Catersource Convention in Vegas.  The tricky part was, of course, planning with my bestie – who is in INDIANA!  Here are some photos of the details that went into this labor of love and of our final table…and yes, that’s David Tutera!

Key Elements: custom size mirrored dance floor (A MUST HAVE), accent color rose garland that “puddles,” handmade print material that I made with scrolled laser-cut paper, feathers, blingy paper and jewels, plus lots of texture: velvet, sparkle, satin…

How cute are we?  We didn’t win the competition but the day was a big win for us personally…it was the extra day of a Leap Year, in Vegas..with my bestie doing something we love…AND David was there!

I bought this fancy pants skull and crossbones “party ring” because I’m on a new skull and crossbones kick but I found that it was the perfect bling to wear in Vegas with my silver sparkle, sparkle, bling, bling toes and my jeweled shoes.  It matched our mirrored dance floor perfectly and seemed to fit right in in Vegas!

I recently discovered Sofia Mini’s, cute little cans of bubbles perfect for a quick dinner for two – whether you are celebrating or not!  Tonight I served the mini bubbles with some sushi and crab and it was so yummy!

I love these little cans so much that my muse brain is going a mile a minute thinking about ways to use them.  They are absolutely PERFECT for outdoor weddings, chilled for guests to take with them to their seats or open after the ceremony.  PERFECT to pack in a light picnic to the beach or on a hike up Mt. Tam.  PERFECT as little take-aways tied with sparklers and a matching sugar cookie for a NYE party or even better as the actual invitation to such a party!  And…as I most recently discovered…absolutely PERFECT for small celebrations of life, love and maybe even nothing at all…

One of my very favorite things about wedding planning is putting clients in touch with top vendors.  Vendors who are creative and excellent at what they do.  San Francisco has no shortage of wedding talent and that goes for Gabrielle Feuersinger who owns Cake Coquette.

Today my clients and I had the pleasure of entering Gabby’s world where everything is beautiful, professional, creative, warm…and incredibly delicious!

It was a treat to watch Gabby connect with my clients as she carefully drafted the cake of their dreams based on our meeting…right down to the hydrangea details with the perfect shade of purple colored pencil.  Her studio was lovely, filled with books and books of past cakes and happy couples and…WE ATE CAKE!

It was the yummiest cake I’ve had in a long time.

Lots of love, lust & butterflies to you Gabby!

My love of all things beautiful (felt with the heart and touched with the hands) includes SHOES! Beautiful shoes.  I recently popped in to DSW because I neeeeeeded (wanted) a new pair of party shoes; sometimes I do this instead of buying a new LBD.  It makes the old LBD new again!  I went in for one pair and walked out with four…four pairs on sale and for the price of one.  I found myself unable to pass up anything sparkly or feathery and there were lots of great options.

Completely unaware, one of the fab pairs I bought was a total Manolo Blahnik knock-off.  Coveted shoes that retail for more than my monthly rent in Sausalito.  Mine were half off of $64.95.  This made me love them even more!

Today I am crushing on these beautiful Manolo Blahnik peep-toe, lace-up, floral cut-out, summer boots… These are going to look great with short shorts in the summer, heck I might even rock them in my bikini by the pool in Palm Springs!

When I first found them my heart sunk because they retail for nearly twice my monthly rent in Sausalito (I’m such a Carrie as I’m constantly pondering purchases that are just out of reach).  But, as is the case with most girls, ‘where there’s a will (and there was a really, really strong will to have these babies) there’s a way…’  I did a quick Google search, inspired by my knock-off encounter above, and stumbled upon a site called Jessica Buurman, where I found the EXACT SAME BOOTS for only (drum roll please) $179!  I ordered them without flinching and I shall post a pic of me happily rocking them in a few weeks!

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only
grows with passing years.”

When it’s a little chilly outside I feel extra nest-y and one of my favorite chilly weather dishes to make is White Chili.  It’s an easy dish to make and it’s best if you can let it simmer all day long.

You start with a simple mirepoix, adding in a little garlic.  This is a dump and simmer recipe, my favorite!  You’ll dump chicken broth, a variety of white beans, chicken meat you’ve pulled from a roasted chicken, and jalapeno peppers into the pot for simmering.  I season with basil, salt and pepper and I pour some of the jalapeno juice in for a little kick.

This White Chili is served best over rice, with a bit of cilantro and a dollop of sour cream!
